Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Jon G — 19 Aug 2008
What a nice little ditty from the Middle East--a gem for those that think Israelis and Arabs to be caught in perpetual conflict. An Egyptian police orchestra arrives in Israel to play at a newly minted Arab culture center.
They end up stranded in the middle of nowhere and must rely on local hospitality. From there, the officers are treated to many instances from which they can learn about the 'enemy' culture and perhaps about themselves.
Many wonderful moments that delight the soul and reaffirm the goodness of humanity--FROM THE MIDDLE EAST OF ALL PLACES, right?--in ways that are not strenuously preachy or political.
