Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Darcy L — 22 Jan 2009
This is a really quaint and touching film, full of little moments that you could miss if you don't stay attentive to the subtle comedy and interplay of tragedy. The film is set against a deeper context that is not fully eluded to, perhaps political but all together human in scope.
I like this film because the cast plays it perfectly and the acting isn't forced. The plot is simple and nothing happens by mistake, each frame pays attention to detail and nuance without being trite or gimmicky.
I feel this movie is about discovering the joy of being out of your element and being open to new experiences and the curve balls life throws at you. This movie will make you smile.
