Review of The Ballad of Narayama (1983) by Brandon S — 11 Aug 2010
Shohei Imamura's celebration of sex and death is at times darkly humorous and at times downright depressing in this film. The plot follows a family of farmers in a mountain village for the length of one year and the troubles that are faced with the environment and themselves.
Great film is touching and devastating at the same time and is filled with great performances from Imamura's usual acting circle.
