Review of The Ballad of Jack and Rose (2005) by David F — 15 Jan 2008
Actually a very good film. Despite what you've heard it isn't about incest, rather a complex look at idealism and isolation especially in the face of progress/encroachment. Camilla Belle isn't half bad, but Day-Lewis is thrice good, and thus she comes off looking like a pretty poor actor.
However, asking a teenager to hold her own against him is probably a bit much. The cast is insteresting but for the most part works, and Miller conveys her point pretty effectively and for the most part elegantly, though the soundtrack is your basic hippy flashback soundtrack.
Just for the record, I really want Daniel Day-Lewis to eat a hamburger. He's second on on that list next to Christian Bale in The Machinist.
