All told, a good film. Day-Lewis and Belle simply click together as a father and daughter living on an abandoned commune on an island off the east coast of the US. While telling of the dangers of codependency and resistance to change, "Ballad" also reflects on the hippie culture and its seemingly lessening impact on our society.
Beau Bridges, Catherine Keener, Paul Dano, Jena Malone, and relative unknown Ryan McDonald all turn in top-notch performances.
