Review of The Ballad of Jack and Rose (2005) by Bryan T — 18 Jun 2008
Extremely unsettling film that has you riveted for the entire duration. Day-Lewis (whom I believe to be the best actor working today) turns in one brilliant performance after another. This is a gem of his that people don't generally look at.
Astonishing screenplay/dialogue by Miller, with tedious camera-work that doesn't serve the story. GREAT performances across the board. Has an extremely literary feeling throughout. Not a film I'll be rushing to watch again anytime soon, out of its emotional disturbance.
Camilla Belle is an actress to keep our eye on.
