Review of The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970) by Tim H — 02 Oct 2008
Not a fun movie or even a compelling story on the surface. However, there is some deeper meaningful stuff going on. A very good Peckinpah film in that the whole movie hinges on the recurring Peckinpah theme of the man of the old west and the incursion of the modern era.
I think he did a much better job of it in "The Wild Bunch". The actors all do a fine job and the direction is good there just seems to be too many lag moments and I really can't stand the Hildy character.
The music? Well it is pretty much annoying crap. If you are looking for an action packed Western look elsewhere.
