Review of The Bad Seed (1956) by Mary B — 18 Sep 2009
Patty McCormack is the original evil little girl.
"The Bad Seed" is about a wicked little girl. That's about it. The story is cool and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Some people have criticized it for overacting, but that's merely because it is set up like a stage show. Maybe that's not how it should be, but stage acting is very different from film acting. Patty McCormack plays a great Rhoda Penmark. Let's just say I wouldn't want to have her as a child. The ending is a cop-out, though, but that's because of studio censoring. Just pretend that the ending "wharf" scene is not in it, because that's not how the original author intended it.
