Review of The Backyard (2002) by Tyler V — 06 Dec 2009
Thankfully, The Backyard manages to navigate that precarious tightrope. It deals directly with incredible violence, doesn't outright condemn those who participate in it and manages not to simply revel in it.
The most insane part of the doc aren't necissarily the violent portions but getting to know the kids and their famalies. The mother of a wrestler who calls himself "The Retarded Butch" trying to stop her son's matcfh while in progress is one of the more incredible things I have seen in a doc.
