Review of The Babysitters (2008) by Chad F — 08 Oct 2008
Wow - I guess I was kind of shocked after watching this movie. To see that this script even got green-lighted and given the cast it was given was a surprise. The movie is about a bunch of 17 year old girls who end up "babysitting" a lot but really their main focus is prostituting for the family husbands.
John Leguizamo is an effective pedophile scumbag cheating on his wife. if you ever liked him before, well you won't in this movie. Cynthia Nixon is hardly in the film and should not even have her name on the front.
And as for all of the babysitters, specifically the main girl - her face and personality screams BORING! She has no personality and her face is so intensely average it's hard to watch. It's unfortunate because honestly it's an interesting plot but it was absolutely NOT pulled off well.
The script is so horrible - more than a few scenes were downright laughable because of unrealistic communication between chracters...the complete lack of sense. Some of the plot twists are decent but it's not enough to save this stinker.
What could have been some sort of cult classic instead will float around aimlessly as an unimpressive, unappealing "trying too hard" piece. Maybe if you're a 15 year old girl with a rebel itch, you should pick this up, otherwise I'd probably steer clear!
