Review of The Babysitters (2008) by Dena S — 02 Jan 2009
"The Babysitters" needed to be an over-the-top dark comedy like "Heathers" or "Very Bad Things," a thoughtful look at how a high school student becomes a prostitute or it needed to be a Direct-to-DVD "Friday After Dark" movie for Cinemax.
Its only attempt at the latter is having Katherine Waterston appear topless. The other sex scenes feature no nudity and are generally shot from the waist up. When it's trying for dark comedy, the movie has some amusing moments.
Its efforts at character building, however, fall flat. In short, it's a watchable movie, but it really needed another rewrite.
