Review of The Babadook (2014) by Bryce J — 25 Jan 2016
The Babadook is one of the greatest horror movies I have seen in years. Instead of being the cliche horror movie full of the cheap loud jump-scares that have became all to predictable. The film has much more originality in that it uses the type of scares that horror films should be full of which are much more creepy and terrifying leaving you with uneasy feelings.
Its the type of film that you will be stuck thinking about after you finish it. When your home alone with nothing but your thoughts. More importantly the film has a debatable side on what is actually happening to the mother.
possibly bits of insanity or the wild thought that there really is something evil. overall The Babadook is an amazing horror movie that was a sleeper hit and soon to be classic, with the stupendous acting job by Essie Davis its hard to believe she didn't get an oscar nod for her convincing performance.
If interested check out the short film that writer/director Jennifer Kent made called Monster. The film is Generally a shortened and lesser budget version of The Babadook and its great to see where the idea originated from for such an outstanding film.
