The Babadook is definitely one of the best horror movies in the past 10 years. It is leagues above all the horror movies released in the past 5 years. The script is genius and casting is top notch. Both main actors do a great job.
Instead of relying on cheap gore and jump scares, The Babadook builds tension and scares you by the atmosphere. The symbolism is great and stop motion monster makes it very realistic and scary. The plot is also really beautiful in a creepy way.
The only shortcoming is the dragon sound effect at the end.
