Review of The Babadook (2014) by Grasso — 01 Aug 2015
The Babadook is a horror masterpiece, a true modern classic. It stands out from the current productions of the genre, it's not your ordinary jumpscare ride. It uses real (in the literal sense of the word) tension and horror, combined with a gripping, powerful screenplay to achieve marvels.
Its subtext is very well structured, layering the movie endlessly. Not to mention extraordinary performances from Essie Davis and Noah Wiseman and an breakthrough debut from director Jennifer Kent, already hands down the best horror director in the game nowadays.
