Review of The Babadook (2014) by Cade H — 06 Jul 2015
The Babadook is a genuinely freaky horror movie that relies on much more then just jump scares and monsters. The entire tone of the film is dark, creepy and fits perfect with everything going on around it.
It reminded me a lot of one of my favorite movies, The Ring and it will definitely stay with long after seeing it, just like the little girl who comes out of the well in the tv. The great part about this horror flick is that their is a strong focus on the relationship between the mother and son and that really leads to some tense moments between the two when things get really bad.
The sound was excellent and so creepy that even without surround sound I kept hearing things from all my living room and the voice of the Babadook, oh man, scary. This horror film was so well done and is one of the best films in the genre I have seen in years.
As I write this I am looking behind me into my empty apartment expecting to hear "Babadook, dook, dook. :).
