Review of The Babadook (2014) by Robert B — 12 Jan 2016
The creep is real.
This is one of those real tension eaters, where you can pretty much see where the film is going about halfway through and you're just along for the ride. The first half does a great job of setting up the mother's frustration with her son and making you hate him just as much and then WHAM! That's when The Babadook starts terrorizing them both, and there's no where for them to run.
The editing and sound design were the big stand-out elements for me, but a real sense of timing and getting you to feel uneasy. I also really loved the production design, everything about the family's house and the Babadook book were excellently put together.
Definitely make a point to see this if you're a fan of horror - it's on Netflix so scratch that itch!
