2015 saw a lot of new and amazing franchises. The babadook is easily one of the stand alone best horror films in the past 5 years. Although it works on a fairly dated premise it does it in such a way that really pulls you in and makes you enjoy every second.
The progression is, tense. Very tense, and by the end of the film you're slightly exhausted from the shear unnerving quality of the film. Dark, gothic, and incredibly uncomfortable. It's an absolute slam dunk of a horror film.
Plenty of chiller jumps, great feel. IFC midnight is definitely becoming an important player for great, strong horror genre.
