Review of The Babadook (2014) by Tom S — 29 Aug 2017

The Babadook is a 2014 psychological horror film in which a woman and her child are taunted by a monster named..you guessed it,The Babadook.

This movie is truly amazing,it is really scary and terrifying all around,it gives you the creeps and they will stay there for the night.Also this movie is very smart,which is truly surprising on a horror movie nowadays but this awesome and well made movie has it all.

The acting is also top notch,especially by Essie Davis,who gave a very impressive performance and in my opinion one of the year's best.She truly deserved to be nominated for an Oscar,but apparently the Academy does not recognize these type of movies and the acting in it,and probably because it is from Australia,which is a weird thing to say,but this is what to be excepted by the Academy.The little boy Noah Wiseman also gave a very good performance,even though you hate his character at the beginning,like you are supposed to,but by the end you start to understand him more and some of the things he is going through,so then we get along just fine with him and he becomes as likable as a character can be.

The monster is also very frightening and interesting,its motives and the way it looks is very weird but also interesting to look at.I though that it was very well handled by the amazing direction of Jennifer Kent,who also wrote the movie on her debut on movie making,which is truly insane thinking that this is her first movie and it being so good and well made/directed.

I truly love this movie and despite the quiet slow start and the build up that takes a while,this movie is very interesting and very well made with some amazing acting and likable characters that make for a pretty fun and terrifying experience.
