Review of The Babadook (2014) by Kevin R — 17 Aug 2015
You're not my mother!
A single mother raising an amazing and resilient young man is trying to persevere after the horrific death of her husband and son's father. They find a book in their new house that they read as a good night book that unleashes a demon of sorts in the house. The demon is known to posses bodies and the mother will do her best to protect her son.
"I promise to protect you if you promise to protect me.".
Jennifer Kent, director of the television series Two Twisted, delivers The Babadook in his directorial debut. The storyline for this picture is interesting and the characters are well written. I adored the settings and backdrops. The acting was awesome and the cast includes Essie Davis, Daniel Henshall, Noah Wiseman, and Hayley McElhinney.
"If you're that hungry why don't you go and eat shit!".
This was recently added to the Netflix online queue so I added it to the wish list. This was way better and more clever than I anticipated, like a better version of The Orphanage. This is worth a viewing and borderline worth adding to your horror movie collection. This is a well done horror film.
"I'll kill the monster when it comes. I'll bash its head in.".
Grade: B+.
