A beautifully Gothic ghost story that succeeds more down to its atmosphere and excellent performances than any actual scares. The washed out look of the film works excellently and the small cast and (mostly) single location reminded me of the recent 'Woman in Black' and I didn't see the twist coming at the end.
For those who like real scares and evil spirits I'd stick to 'The Conjuring' or 'Woman in Black'. However if you enjoy well-made atmospheric ghost stories (that are probably closer to the old BBC Christmas Ghost stories) then I would heartily recommend this beautiful film.
