Review of The Awakening (2010) by Nick R — 24 Nov 2011
Well acted and beautiful atmospheric setting. As someone who has taught in a small prep school, and worked in a large public school during the holidays, I can confirm that these places can be very spooky.
They do tend to foster ghosts. The first hour of the film is very good, but the ending lets it down. All three lead actors are good, Imelda Staunton in particular delivers a mix of soft and chilling that is very well judged.
Avoids some of the cliches of the genre and certainly a cut above many films in the same genre.
