Review of The Astronaut's Wife (1999) by Steve J — 10 Dec 2007
I've now seen TWO Johnny Depp movies that I won't go out of my way to see again, and will probably avoid, the other being The Ninth Gate. Unlike The Ninth Gate, The Astronaut's Wife isn't actively bad, it's just not particularly good.
It probably could have been saved by a bit more exposition, more lead-up to "the two minutes" or Charlize Theron getting naked. Sadly, none of these happened, resulting in a completely mediocre movie.
Depp did manage to do a decent job of being equally threatening and seemingly caring, and Joe Morton was very good as the fired-from-NASA unshaven conspiracy theorist, but his screen time was fairly short.
