Review of The Assassination of Richard Nixon (2004) by Mark P — 01 Apr 2007
This 'based on true events' film was well made and acted with lots of 70s detail. It reminded me a lot of Taxi Driver as it explored similar themes of an everyman feeling anger, helplessness and wanting to initiate change.
Obviously, a Sean Penn film was never going to be 'Dude, Where's My Car?': this was a hardcore, humourless and unrelentingly journey of doom and gloom. It was certainly worth watching whilst wearing the Serious Cinemaphile Intellectual Thinking Hat (available now from JML), but it wasn't exactly full of the joys of Spring.
