Review of The Asphalt Jungle (1950) by Sebastian T — 11 Mar 2009
One of the great film noir films ever and I think the film that gave crime and heist films their form. Really great style by the very versatile John Huston. I really loved many of the performances. Sterling Hayden is fantastic as the lead, and Sam Jaffe is wonderful as the orchestrator of the heist.
This is also Marilyn Monroe's first major film role, and she's also quite good. The film is really enjoyable from start to finish and simply reiterates crime doesn't pay. And the last sequence is just both cruel and awesome at the same time.
