Review of The Art of the Steal (2010) by Raul V — 07 Apr 2010
Fascinating. Disturbing. Educational. This doc reveals the seldom known story of one man's (Dr. Albert Barnes) massive collection of modern & post-impressionist art. Dedicated to continued art education, as well as a uniquely intimate experience for the public, Barnes created a foundation that, although designed to educate and cater to "average" art lovers, would later (after his death) be the target of the corporate & privileged interests of primarily Philadelphia to covet for decades later.
Doc enthusiasts should love it. Art lovers should not miss it. It's no longer in theaters, but give it shot when it arrives on DVD in a couple of months.
