Review of The Arrival (1996) by Mark N — 30 Apr 2012
Strangely disjointed tale of alien invasion that's cheap on the effects and heavy on the plot. There is a reasonable story here but budget was obviously the hindrance on story telling, using the 'aliens disguised as humans' plot to save cash, but they they did spend a little on sets and some brief shots of the unmasked invaders.
Without Sheen the movie would be a dead loss and his earnest, if sweaty, portrayal makes the whole affair watchable. The main problem is the plodding pace that fails to pic up enough to disguise a rote ending nobody can fail to predict less than half way through.
