Review of The Apostle (1997) by Aaron G — 22 Feb 2008
Robert Duvall's labor of love is a frightening observation (to some) of the human condition under the thin veil of religion. Using a devout servant of God, Duvall, in the performance of his career, unearths the turbulent war within men as his Pentecostal pastor wrestles with personal angst and the temptations of the flesh.
An utterly realistic portrayal of not simply a man of God, but a mere human being. While it's certainly not a brutal critique of the Church and it's teachings, it's an amazingly honest tale of redemption that rightfully suggests that we all, no matter what we believe in, reap what we sow.
