Review of The Apartment (1960) by Matthew L — 01 Oct 2008
Not only is Billy Wilder vastly ahead of his time, he makes movies about subjects and situations that are very unique and new. Over forty years later, they still feel new. Not only is he a great director, but his writing is also one of the reasons his stuff is so good.
He at least co-writes all his flicks and it definitely shows. Jack Lemmon is so nice in this. He never rats out anyone and he is always honest. He proves that nice guys never get ahead. Jk, but he does take a lot of stuff he doesn't deserve and you love him even more for it.
I also liked Fred MacMurray who was in Double Indemnity. Shirley MacLaine is great too. I love how she has short hair and is really different from all the other girls. I'm constantly amazed at how modern all of Billy Wilder's films feel.
