Review of The Apartment (1960) by Hans G — 03 Jul 2009
Billy Wilder has really only ever done really good stuff, and although this wasn't (in my opinion), his most entertaining, or enjoyable movie (that I've seen), it definitely is one of the more intelligent and more thought out ones.
I went in expecting a laugh-out loud comedy as Some Like It Hot was, but I wasn't at all disappointed when that's not what it was. The Apartment is in fact a lot more serious, and deals with large issues.
Jack Lemmon does another fantastic job. He's extremely natural and keeps the humor right up there. Shirley MacLaine also gives a great performance as the helpless elevator girl.
