Review of The Apartment (1960) by Mary P — 05 Aug 2009
Very adult for anytime, even more than 40 years later. Billy Wilder was scathing and relentless in portraying a lonely, single guy's rise up the corporate ladder by dint of having an apartment the elder members of the bureaucracy use for assignations.
He falls in love with one of their mistresses when she actually overdoses in his apartment. Beautiful, gentle, kind portrayal of a good man in a bad system. Fred MacMurray ably plays the cheating skunk who lies to wife and mistress alike and does it capably.
