Review of The Apartment (1960) by Marc L — 15 Feb 2011
While I'm confused as to why this is regarded as a comedy, it's still another great film by Billy Wilder, with great performances by Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. To expound on my reaction, the leads are two of the most pitiful (although likable) characters I've seen in a very long time.
Because it's dating back to 1960, "The Apartment" is reminiscent of a time when Hollywood films were capable of iconic imagery, but were saddled with required happy endings, although this one is earned.
