Review of The Angry Birds Movie (2016) by Tevi S — 24 May 2016
"The Angry Birds Movie" is a spoof on the popular phone app of 2014. In the film, Jason Sudeikis voices Red, a hapless angry bird who has been shunned by his village of friends and lives isolated by himself in a remote part of the island.
When a mysterious ship docks on the beach containing some suspicious green pigs, the community welcomes them with open arms, but Red doesn't trust the new visitors. He tries to get to the bottom of their motives.
Though the story is a bit simplistic and underdeveloped, I thought the animation and sympathetic characters made up for it. This film has a lot of heart and is a solid underdog story. The director actually makes us want to root for Red and his band of misfits.
Red becomes the hero he knew he could be. This will not garner an Oscar but it is a solid underdog story nonetheless --------------------------------------------------- B.
