Review of The Angry Birds Movie (2016) by Movie K — 22 Jun 2016

If you like the mobile game you should like this animation movie based on the game. Red (Jason Sudeikis) is a bird with thick eyebrows and easily angered. At the start he has to go through many obstacles to arrive in time for a birthday party performance and he is late.

The hirer chided him and he accidentally broke the couple's unhatched egg, causing him to become "dad" of the newborn. The Judge Peckinpah (Keegan-Michael Key) sentence him to attend anger management course conducted by Matilda (Maya Rudolph).

3 other birds Chuck (Josh Gad), Bomb (Danny McBride) & Terence (Sean Penn) also attend the class. One day a ship came and crash into Red beach house. 2 green pigs Leonard (voice of Bill Hader) and his assistant Ross (Tony Hale) came out to make friends.

They claim to be 2 only. Red suspect their motives and with Chuck and Bomb, inspect the ship and found more pigs hiding. Leonard quickly says they hide in order for him to clearly make sure the birds are friendly and quickly they do performance to make the birds forget.

During the island walkabout, the pigs realize the birds have eggs. Red still feel something is wrong and together with his 2 friends, they climb up the mountain to seek the legendary Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage).

Chuck and Bomb swim and drink the lake of wisdom but turns out the Eagle pees in it. The Eagle seems like a phony and quite narcissistic. Red use the binoculars and see the birds partying at the camp set up by the pigs and the pigs have set up TNT around the island and steal all the eggs.

The Eagle refuse to help and the 3 friends rush down to stop the pigs but in vain. All the birds are sadden and loss. They look to Red as the leader. He command to build a boat and follow the trail. At their pig island, Leonard turns out to be the king and only he has discover eggs unlike his father and grandfather.

Using the slingshot, the birds are all launch, each with different powers. Leonard bring forward the egg feast. Red, Chuck and Bomb manage to reach the castle and fight their way up. Eagle decide to help out and at the top castle, he grab the eggs to fly off.

Leonard grab Red and he let go in order to save an egg that drop out. Landing into the basement full of TNT, Red use reverse anger to make Leonard drop guard and seize the chance to grab the egg. A TNT is lighted up.

Red time his move and hide in a dropping pot, shielding from the explosion. When everyone thought he is dead, he emerge victorious with the egg hatching triplets. Red and friend are hail as heroes and his home is move back and fixed up in the island town.
