Review of The Andromeda Strain (1971) by Charley K — 21 Dec 2007
One of the few movies to ACCURATELY portray how science is really done: with grinding thoroughness and accuracy. The problem here is that it doesn't make for very exciting cinema. This is somewhat made up for by interspersing some tense moments of drama and some well-paced action near the end.
Worth watching for the realistic science and the cautionary tale of military research gone wrong, and definitely a must-see for scientists and science fans of all kinds, especially those into microbiology.
And notice the hyper-realistic scenes of lab animals succumbing to Andromeda... you'll puzzle over how that was done despite the "no animals harmed" oversight by the Humane Association.
