Review of The Andromeda Strain (1971) by Spencer D — 04 Jun 2009
This film totally plays to my inner Geek. I have studied and researched infectious disease for some time, and, as an undergraduate, would discuss topics like, 'what are the minimum requirements for life?' And here, curtesy of Michael Crichton, is a movie that encompasses these themes, and explores them in a believable manner (well, as believeable as you can be with an underground base and alien organism).
Even without an appeal to geekdom, it is a great film. It turns an investigation into a mysterious micro-organism into a tense thriller, and remains one of the best films based on any of Michael Crichton's writing.
