While aesthetically an improvement over the lackluster 1979 original the 2005 remake is just as poorly acted, directed, and cut -- probably more so in hindsight -- and twice as campy. Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George are miscast as the Lutz's who helped turn a haunted house hoax into a best seller, a hit movie, and a straight-to-video shaggy dog franchise which the 2005 remake has sold its soul to.
