Review of The Amityville Horror (2005) by Richard R — 21 Aug 2013
I never saw the original film, nor read the original book, although I have watched a documentary or two on the events depicted. The film itself is a good horror film not least because of the captivating performance of Ryan Reynolds, who really makes you believe he is descending into madness (whether or not you buy the ghosts everywhere approach).
It does well in creating quite a suspenseful atmosphere, although may rely a little bit too much on the "ooh there's something creepy standing behind you" approach to horror, it does very well to create an enjoyable movie experience.
