Review of The American President (1995) by Rebecca H — 15 Sep 2009
This is The American President and it is going to be as interesting as you find American presidency. Decide from that whether to bother watching. It is quite engrossing on a first viewing, but it just gets duller and duller every time I see it again. It also has Michael J Fox in a supporting role, and he's just such a charismatic and energetic actor that he doesn't work when he's not the lead, because he's always more watchable than everyone else. Oh, and it is about American politics - or baffling gibberish.
The president fancies a woman (who is unfortunately utterly dislikeable, so there goes any investment in the relationship you might have) and he starts dating her just before he is up for re-election, causing his popularity to plummet.
A relationship I don't care about, politics I don't understand, no, this is not the film for me.
