Review of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) by Jeremy S — 06 Jul 2017
Honestly, I think this gets a little bit of a bum rap. Not to say the critics aren't right, it's just that the stuff that's good in it I think is a lot better than some of the stuff in the Spider-Man movies.
But the biggest problem I have is that there's way too much plot and The ending with the Rhino is awful. There's an alternate ending where uncle Ben is still alive. As if they didn't throw enough at you.
But, we actually get some good acting from Andrew Garfield. So comparing the endings is like comparing a skunk with a skunk that has some salt on it. But with that said, not only are these some of the best effects that ever came out of the movies, but it has some of the most dramatic moments.
The final battle in the clock tower between Spidey and The Green Goblin is one of the best things I've seen in any of the movies. The whole atmosphere of the Clock tower is just so dark that you just feel like you've descended into Hell.
And just like the comic book, Gwen dies. And they captured being so close the saving someone, but end up resulting in their death. And the acting from Andrew Garfield supports it. But does that make up for the other mistakes in the film? Probably not.
But like I said before, even though a lot of it doesn't always connect, it's cool. The action is cool, and, yeah, I'll even say the Electro is not as bad as everybody says he is. So, yeah, is the first film technically told better? Yes.
But, I still stand by the fifth has some of the best moments out of any of them. And for a while, this was all I thought I would ever get out of our Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man , but little did I know that so much more, good was awaiting me in the future.
