Review of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) by Tyler F — 25 Jul 2015
How do I put this in a way that won't have me going into a rant? I can only try so hard. Even without going into a full-out rant, I still have to do bullet points.
The plot is a lazy and convoluted mess, relying too heavily on chance and coincidence for things to happen. Hardly anything happens intentionally here. Add in some slapped-together morals that completely contradict each other and it's the final bullet for the series.
The characters are sloppy and, for lack of a better word, obsessive to the point of being creepy. The hero is borderline delusional and crazy by this point and the villains are either lame, over-the-top levels of unintentionally-silly, or completely two-dimensional.
The story is...I've never seen a worse story told more poorly in a Spider-Man movie. It has countless plot holes, is very clunky, and seems VERY confused at times. Worse still is that it had FOUR movies to look back at and learn from, yet it appeared to learn nothing at all and repeated the mistakes, except far, FAR worse.
I would go into the many production problems and blatant attempts at advertising and worldbuilding, but that would take too long.
Bottom-line? This is the worst Spider-Man movie in the entire series and a solid case as to how commercializing can KILL superhero movies.
