Review of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) by Joanna A — 22 Apr 2015
My biggest question is: "when did Spiderman become a pretentious brat, who thinks very highly of himself?" Peter Parkers, character is based upon the idea of a self conscious teen not a: I play with my hair and look candidly into the camera, Andrew Garfield. That's not to say that I don't like Garfield. In fact I really do. I just found myself at the start of the film, really disliking the character created.
I will say that they got the idea of a tragic hero down. I mean what other superhero can do so much right and still have things go so wrong? That's part of what makes Peter Parker's character so interesting: one he's relatable and two: his life has consequences many other supeheros stories fail to realize.
I didn't think the plot was too jumbled, or that there were too many villains. There's really only one villain, and the two other villains are just a side note. But I don't think they distract from someones enjoyment of the film.
Emma Stone is great as Gwen Stacy, although I'm not sure she's the idea version of Gwen when you compare her to the comic book version. In the comic she was way more of a dashing beauty, and not so much a brainiac/witty girl.
Spiderman is good, not great. And if you're a fan of the webslinger then it's certainly worth watching.
