Review of The Alphabet Killer (2008) by Sitenoise ! — 22 Dec 2008
Rob Schmidt directs what is surely a very loose interpretation of a true story here. Like the earlier remake of The Zodiac (another true life serial killer story), the director fails to engage the viewer here, thrusting Dushku's investigator through trauma and mental breakdown without giving us much insight into why she's falling apart so quickly.
He gives us no concept of time passing as two years flit by between scenes. Dushku is miscast, but has a good (if occasionally hammy) go at her character, but the film is sunk by a poor script and lack of steady direction.
