Review of The All Together (2007) by Andrew M — 20 Nov 2007
I suppose it was bound to happen, wasn't it? When was good-ol'-boy Martin Freeman, and bad-ol'-boy Danny Dyer gonna make a BritCom together. I was rather hoping that they wouldn't and now having endured this movie, I'm kinda hoping both their careers are coming to a close.
A juxtaposition of two stories involves Freeman playing a TV producer (imagine Tim from The Office has changed careers) and Danny Dyer entertaining a dumb, loud archetypal American en route to the airport.
The two stories meet when, due to an enormous contrivance, Dyer and co. meet Freeman's flatmate and hold people to ransom. Character motivations are at their most suspect in this film, not that the film does anything with them.
There are no laughs AT ALL, not even a remote smile or throaway chuckle. Having been a massive fan of The Office and, to some extent, Freeman himself - we know that ol' Martin's in trouble when he's oudone by his Bosnian co-star, Velibor Topic; who just about remains unscathed.
It won't spoil anything to inform you that Danny Dyeris murdered before he ever gets to meet Martin Freeman. I know how he feels.
