Review of The Age of Stupid (2009) by John M — 19 Nov 2009
Like watching someone channel surf through various documentaries for an hour and a half. It's the year 2055, and the world has gone to hell in a hand basket, all because of global warming. Pete Postlethwaite (that guy from Alien³) is an archivist of all human media and has a really cool flat screen, and we join him as he takes a look back at a number of documentaries that address climate changes.
To the movie's credit, it does have a novel structure; I've never seen a documentary before that takes place in the future. All the footage used from other documentaries is real, but only a handful of the footage is effective.
At the end of the movie, The Age of Stupid consistently wags it finger at humanity, but offers no solutions other then to stop flying airplanes and to give wind power a chance. It's very one-sided, and constantly alienating your viewer isn't a very good way to gain their support.
