Review of The Age of Stupid (2009) by Michelle M — 30 Jul 2010
The set-up in this movie was rather artificial, and probably unnecessary. It would've been a good documentary without the fictional character looking back from an arctic outpost in 2055. The footage was a mishmash of individual people's stories and short animations all related to climate change.
While the message was that we still have time to do something to prevent reaching the 2 degree tipping point - the point of no return - the feeling I got was one of fatalism. The blind forces of consumerism/capitalism plus our desire to stick our heads in the sand rather than disrupt our comfortable lives are going to win out.
And we are thus doomed. I'm glad I don't have any kids.
