Review of The Age of Innocence (1993) by Ali K — 09 Jan 2010
Handsome production plods a bit, Day-Lewis comes across as farly passionless, and Ryder is miscast. Supporting players are fine, and the sets, costumes and photography are very well done. Film holds interest as a splendid recreation of a time and culture not given a great deal of cinematic attention.
Scorsese and Schoonmacher's camerawork and editing make more dynamic what could have been a fairly tepid and hidebound narrative.
