Review of The Age of Innocence (1993) by Ken S — 23 Feb 2014
Scorsese's range is probably the most impressive thing about his career. Some were felt this film was too much a departure for him in the 90s, but really it is just another attempt to do something different.
It isn't really that much of a departure for him. Is it a good movie? It is okay. It is definitely not his best work, but it is elegantly shot with great art design...I just didn't care for the story or characters, despite the good performances from the cast.
I preferred Scorsese's other film starring Daniel Day-Lewis and set around the latter half of the 1800s, "Gangs of New York", probably because Scorsese had a bit more passion for that project.
This is actually more up my mom's alley than mine...which is a weird thing to say about a Scorsese picture.
