Review of The Age of Innocence (1993) by Seán C — 25 Jun 2007
This is Martin Scorsese's best film, script-bound, sumptuously photographed and free of the trickery and improvisation that has made his career. This is a very passionate and disciplined effort (so much heat over an unbuttoned glove!) revolving around a man who doesn't believe in love strongly enough to boldly step out of blueblood convention to endure the consequences.
The final shot actually manages to one-up Edith Wharton's rich and wonderful novel.
