Watching this film, you have no idea that this is a Scorsese picture, but, in light that he did direct it, it is an excellent period piece about a man torn between two loves, society's way of backstabbing etiquette, and wanting what you can't have.
The sexual chemistry between Daniel Day-Lewis and Michelle Pfeiffer is amazing.Winona Ryder plays the unsuspecting wife to Lewis, which makes you ponder the irony of their second collaboration. Very pleased, but only that.
