Review of The Age of Innocence (1993) by Debbie W — 21 Dec 2009

I've always wanted to see this film but now I have seen it, I can't for the life of me think why. It's a long, drawn-out story of a man's obsession with the cousin of his fiancee/wife and how it all comes to nothing in the end.

The production values are classic Scorsese with amazing attention to detail and every frame is like looking at a painting. Some of the out door scenes look like Georges Seurat paintings. Daniel Day Lewis and Michelle Pfeiffer are very convincing as the lead characters.

Still, the sad fact remains that the story it's based on is a giant snorefest. I recall someone once remarking that a voice over to explain the story indicates that the film is a dud...this one is no exception to that observation.
